Wandering back from a rather soggy nursery drop off the other morning, a phrase circled around my mind, like a whispering from nature herself: Life’s own algorithm. I had a busy day ahead of me, so once I returned home I forgot all about it. Then, today, during a delicious ten minute meditation, squeezed in between a million things that need to get done, the phrase returned; Life’s own algorithm.
As most of you know, I am taking a year long social media hiatus – for so SO many reasons. One being the strong desire to escape the algorithm the Meta-beast subjects us to every time we open one of their apps. I knew I wouldn’t miss seeing newsfeeds full of flashy lights, advertising or false realities. Even the word algorithm makes me shudder with aversion, like I need to take a shower or sage myself from head to toe! So I was curious about the word creeping into my awareness in a new, very different light.
Will this social media free year allow me to plug into and be influenced by a very old and very simple algorithm? One that nature intended. Will my ability to remember to be present in life become more compelling? Therefore, making it more likely I’ll notice the signs and gifts, dropped along a path like breadcrumbs, leading to a sense of alignment and peace. That all remains to be seen!
What that little phrase has reawakened in me, is a refreshed intention to slow down, to notice more (the signs, the invitations, the spirit winks, the magic!) and to open my heart more fully to life itself.
Life’s own algorithm. Life’s own great algorithm. Hummmm, I wonder – what does that phrase evoke for you?
